It’s almost that time of year to bundle up, get cozy and enjoy all the beauty winter has to offer. There are many activities and practices that students can do to ensure they have a successful, focused, and productive winter.

As wintertime is approaching, we wanted to share 5 tips on how to stay motivated during the winter slowdown season.

Our 5 Tips for the Winter Slowdown:

1. Be Positive
   Winter can be very bleak. Shorter days and less sunshine can lead to sadness so sharing beautiful pictures of winter and news about the season is a great way to boost your mood to help you stay positive. The best part is you will be able to share that positive spirit with your friends around you.
2. Exercise
   It is important to get fresh air during the winter months. Take walks to decompress and help regenerate so you can stay focused on your goals and tasks. Remember, exercise leads to a healthier body and healthier mind!
3. Take Brain Breaks
   Brain breaks can include both movement breaks and mental breaks. Movement breaks such a yoga poses, dance activities, jumping jacks, skipping or mental breaks such as art activities, playing games, or practicing mindfulness are meant to be simple and completed for three to five minutes to reset the mind getting students ready and focused for learning.
4. Plan Special Events
   It is always nice to have things to look forward to, especially in the wintertime. Planning special events at school such as spirit days or outside of school like game nights, bowling, ice skating, indoor swimming parties can all help boost your overall mood in the winter.
5. Hands-on Winter Science Experiments
   Hands-on activities are always fun, entertaining, and engaging. There are many science-based winter activities that are interesting to conduct. Some of our favorite experiments are making candy cane slime, figuring out how weather affects snow textures, making an ice painting using watercolor, discovering frozen bubbles, and examining snowflakes. All these activities are sure to keep students happy and motivated.

By practicing many of these activities, you are more likely to stay happier and feel more accomplished all winter long.  Enjoy your winter and remember “Gray skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face”.
